Second - The Challenge. Even though golf is played in groups, it’s a very personal game. You may be tracking your score against your group mates, but the course is the competition. Its par is set and is waiting for you to show it what you can do. Your mental fortitude is put to the test once you step onto the first tee. I’ve played the same course month after month and I may improve on one hole, but another one gets me.
Third - The Camaraderie. Some of the best times I’ve had are with my GGs on the golf course. We push each other to improve, while talking mad ish trying to beat each other’s score. We imbibe at the appropriate hour (I like that more than saying, “We drink!”) and watch out for each other’s snacks when the squirrels try to steal from someone’s bag when they are hitting. All this while keeping up our pace of play, at least MOST of the time.
My interest in soccer will probably fall off shortly after the World Cup ends, just like my interest in horse racing and oversized hats ended when California Chrome failed to achieve Triple Crown glory. However, my interest in golf grows every day and shows no sign of slowing.
Ladies, do you believe golf is the new Beautiful Game?
